for a while ive been wondering if RM’s mono was drawn by him with his non dominant hand and after having experienced it in therapy
it really made sense with what hes going for in the album
journaling with your non dominant hand actually lets you get in touch with your inner child, and its a psychotherapy technique to heal trauma. here is me journaling with my non dominant hand and visualizing myself writing as a child.
it actually gets really hard, for people who overthink its gets hard to write everything you want to write with the limited motor skills of your non dominant hand which reverts your mindset back to when you were a child when you were just learning to write
i keep thinking back at how mono was essentially joons inner child, especially the track moonchild which was him soothing himself.
of course this is just a hunch but if you saw joon’s normal writing you can see some similarities (the a) and can probably guess this is his non dominant hand writing
but if true i find that really soothing to know that he has really gone through steps in healing himself and made this album as a way to not only soothe us but soothe himself, almost all of joon’s words about comfort ties back to psychotherapy
for example his lessen pain from 100, 99, 98 is a technique to reground. when you have alot of emotions and are overwhelmed it helps when you slowly count down from 100 99 98 until you can feel yourself calm down.
when he said if you want to cry just cry, angry be angry thats also a technique instead of holding onto your emotions you have to release it feeling all these emotions are a way to reground yourself and find out why are you sad why are you angry and know yourself better
this isnt me over analyzing or diagnosing him but just me finding out some similarities and tie backs between his words, songs, concepts to my own therapy sessions, and honestly it makes me happy to know im not going through it alone :’)
if you think about it too, mono isnt just by definition black and white mono can be monologue, mono (one) his own feelings and his own thoughts so this album was really just his heart and soul and his own process of healing
each track was personal to him in some way, introspective and it talks about things that we tend to hide, when we listen to mono it brings out all the feelings we try to keep inside but he chose to bring it all out cause thats what you do when you talk to your inner child
bringing back my own inner child journaling exercise i wrote what the child me would want to say, and wrote what me as a wise parent would say- sometimes healing your trauma is finding out your are still your inner child and you can heal yourself by being your own parent
if you look back at the lyrics in mono youd find its really almost like his journal entries talking to himself
and the fact that he just really bared his emotions out like this for everyone to see is also such a big step in healing, im so proud of him to have come so far in the process of self love the album is still a masterpiece and still such a big part of him and his journey ❤️
while were on the topic of inner child this bd project was primarily inspired by this experience too i am glad that he really brought forth the topic of self love to a whole deeper level ☺️ thanks for all the kind words im glad youre inspired to do the same! ❤️ https://twitter.com/namnamjeans/status/1304428570077405184
