Ikran who is a journalist at buzzfeed has also been SLAMMED by multiple accounts because she works as journalist for a platform that is deemed inappropriate by Somali audiences

Hani my own sister is a registered nurse at the most prestigious clinic in our city but she has gotten scrutinized for being in an interracial marriage even though her husband is Muslim

These are not even scratching the surface of Somali women who have been bashed for their passion. They’re involved in Careers that benefit people, and STILL they are the bud of misogyny. Somali girls I understand your apprehension wholeheartedly, and may Allah protect you.

One last thing, I am extremely proud of the progressions that this generation has made for Somali diasporas. Conversations are becoming easier. But denying the current flaws of female suppression in our community will only set us back further. Insha’Allah we get through it.
