hc isn't creepy for making 10,000 statues of xl bc it's a perfectly normal thing in chinese or buddhist culture to make thousands of states of deities. it's not creepy or obsessive, it's a normal religious act. there's literally a temple in hong kong w 13,000 buddha statues
also he was learning how to sculpt and paint and it's normal for artists to paint/sculpt many times over and over to get better at it. + he was locked in tonglu for 10 whole yrs w nothing else to distract him from the tonglu bloodbath, making statues/paintings was his way to stay
sane amidst all that. he was in a bad mental state in tonglu, his soul/consciousness had almost shattered after taking the curses od those vengeful spirits for xl so i always read him making statues as smth to do to stay sane in those 10 years
also the number 10,000 may have also been exaggerated bc in chinese names of places or things, sometimes we round up numbers or exaggerate them to make them a nicer number lol
