Can we have the attention of world academia pls. India is going down bad and universities are the prime targets of the current regime. If you are at any uni abroad please make sure that your institution is speaking up against crackdown of dissent & attack on academics in India.

You cannot sit your asses in international online conferences talking about rise of supremacist and fascist govts and act like it's lowbrow to translate some of that into every day practice.
If you guys really do give a rat's ass stop being complacent and complicit first.

For anyone who may not know enough:
Pro Hindu supremacist govt in India is systematically attacking state and central unis (best in the country) in the following ways:
1. Ruining it from w/i by bypassing recruitment procedures to bring in compromised faculty that endorse hindutva

2. Parallel developments in the administration to bring in uncritical pro-government elements for VCs and Registrars.
3. Militarisation and surveillance regime on campuses that monitor all critical discussions/debates and paint them as "anti-national"

4. Persistent attack on student unions & teachers' assocs for raising pertinent issues relating to abuse of power, crackdown on dissent, interference in teaching & other campus activities.
5. Using nexus w/ cops, RW press, politicians & policymakers to attack anyone who speaks up

6. Rewarding and promoting anyone who toes their line and promotes their interests.
7. Note that the nexus also includes academics who you may otherwise assume to be liberals. RW thrives on polarisation. They use corruptible liberals to generate confusion and distraction.

8. Uni are now hiring third parties to monitor online activities of students & staff.
9. Student wings of ruling parties & allies use SM & mainstream media to spread disinformation & fake news from w/i campuses.
10. Cops/courts keep you busy w/ fake news & framing based on these.

11. Uni campuses are attacked regularly by violent hindutvadi terrorists supported by inside elements.

A self perpetuating cycle: real criminals are free, get jobs & party tickets. Academics who are trying to expose them & demand justice, languish in prison based on propaganda.

Finally, destroying state funded University system that strives to make equitable access to education possible paves way for the cronies and liberals to run their own private institutions. Privatisation of infrastructure in any of our sectors cannot be allowed as a norm.
