Something I've been thinking about lately = how we develop musical taste (and how that's changed)

What year were you born — and what were the three biggest influences, broadly speaking, on the formation of your musical taste?
For me: Born 1981

1) My mom's CD collection, which she purchased largely at the recommendation of the EW Music Section

2) MTV from years 1992-1994

3) Lesbian camp counselors who introduced me to, ahem, LADY MUSIC

Honestly the thing I hate most about digital music culture = how easy it is to forget about all of the music you truly love. Instead you just keep listening to some playlist that vaguely evokes the sad sack National and Lana Del Ray playlist you made four years ago
I kept a clunky 50 disc CD player that I got as a high school graduation gift (!!! endless lol) until 2011. It was hilarious and a monster but you know what? Even with burned CDs, it kept the things I loved in rotation
Many many millennials will be able to talk to you about their parents' six disc car CDs which never changed over the course of the vehicle's life

My parents': Annie Lennox DIVA, Cars Greatest Hits, Dire Straits Brother in Arms, Eric Clapton Unplugged
