Part of being a PROFESSOR is being prepared to help students understand the material above & BEYOND the book, lecture, & your homework. It doesnt matter WHAT FIELD. If you are unprepared for that, QUIT! Your job is to TEACH! We know the skew but your job is to TEACH!
I'm seeing all these screengrabs of Professors putting major constraints on tests via cameras and algorithms. As one of your colleagues that is the most repugnant thing I remember from my time in school, and one of the most repugnant things about our craft.
If you're a good teacher, guess what, your students will learn the material. Tests aren more a measure of how well youre doing vs how well the students are doing! Remember that! I'm prepared to take heat, and my retort is simple. You get to submit your manuscript infinite times.
Dont talk to me about how students need to close their books, sit down, shut up, not work with each other and take exams. You have n co-authors, and get to submit your manuscript, add, subtract, add to the data, split, as many times as you want. Give students credit & HELP THEM!
The skew being toward granting+publications away from teaching, service, family, and fun.
