The more I look into it and get more involved, the more I realize how messed up campaign finance is and easy it is to cheat the system.
especiallyyyyy with independent expenditures and 501c4& #39;s
Basically, an organization can raise millions of dollars in a 501c4 which the donations are not public, move that money to a PAC/ Super-PAC, and spend millions to support a candidate AND if they don& #39;t use the "8 magic words" (Buckley V. Valeo), don& #39;t have to list the candidate.
And this is all legal!! Organizations/ figures can move money around like it& #39;s nothing and this is where "dark money" comes from. There& #39;s no way to track where they& #39;re raising these funds and most of the times, exactly who they& #39;re funding.
This also isn& #39;t even mentioning that literal CORPORATIONS can donate to campaigns as well because of the horrendous Citizens United case. If you& #39;re a CEO, you can max out to a candidate and then have your corporation max out as well. Just ridiculous.
