A short thread about a (somewhat) short river:

Collected digital resources about the Hudson estuary

Archiving this for #ENSC101
First we have the #NewYorkState drainage basins. I am a product of #02030101 the #LowerHudson and it's neat to see how water helps shape towns and counties

If you want to explore other estuaries, you can always use the #NationalEstruariesProgram map. My favorite layer is the US Soil Survey, you can see how debris from the Hudson spilled out to form parts of Long Island

If we look closer at the #LowerHudson watershed, we see the Hudson river, a river that flows both ways. It has a salt front that can migrate from Newburgh to Tarrytown (~40 miles). This fosters the Hudson nursery where fish <1 yr in age flourish

If you can't voyage down the river yourself, there is some great #slowTV were you can see the sights and trip down to Manhattan for free.
From the Delaware-Catskill watershed over a billion gallons of water a day makes its way into the city. New York likes to brag that it's water is unfiltered, though the Croton Filtration plant under #VanCortlandtPark is not to be ignored*

And if you're just into maps and rivers, this is a recent favorite: inspired by Gambia it's a US Map where states are determined by the course of our major rivers

Almost last but not least I leave you with the #wikipedia find: a 1639 map of New York. Note the Native American longhouses and #43 the home of Jonas Bronck...

...for whom the Bronx River is named after, which the county is named after.

You can follow the Bronx River up from the Long Island sound, through the Bronx (past the #BronxRiverHouse) through the Zoo and eventually up to White Plains

There is so much that didn't fit into this thread, but we can talk about #horseshoecrabs and #oysters another time
