1/8 Something I noticed this weekend.. since the pandemic started, we’ve had take out from restaurants 15+ times. Mostly “mid-level” restaurants & two times from “higher-end restaurants”.
2/8 The “mid-level” restaurants food quality from pre-pandemic times vs now as take out has been exactly the same. Same portions, same ingredients, same quality.. the food has been good. We’ve enjoyed it.
3/8 The 2x we’ve tried take out from the higher-end restaurants.. the food quality has been poor, the portions don’t match what was served in the restaurant itself, and the ingredients are noticeably lower quality vs before.
4/8 I find it interesting that the quality of the mid-level restaurants is the same while the food quality of the higher end restaurants is much lower.
5/8 My thought process is:

1.) are they afraid to spend $ on higher quality food right now since they potentially could be shut down again?
2.) do they not have access to the same food partners as they did before earlier in the year?
3.) is it a new food buyer in charge?
6/8 I’m not mad by any means at these restaurants. That isn’t the goal of this thread.

It’s simply a small observation of the effects of the pandemic & curiosity of how things are changing in business.
7/8 Also, I know restaurant owners are dealing with endless obstacles & challenges today. & I wish them nothing but the best.
8/8 I’m just curious how these “mid-level” restaurants have been able to continue the quality of their offerings while other restaurants are still trying to figure things out?

I’m happy to listen & learn from anyone that is a restaurant owner today.
