okay, so ive seen a lot of people finally listening and on board for not tw'ing food and thats excellent. but cw food is not the answer, it is the exact same thing. please read this thread to understand why
even if you don't agree with me because the words content and trigger are different things, you do get cw food is still tagging/warning food? the entire point of dropping tw food is to normalize food again instead of making it feel like its bad/shouldn't be talked about
its important to understand why you shouldn't be tw'ing food, not just doing it because your mutual rt'ed a thread. read the thread. understand WHY, because if you do, you'd see why cw is the same thing. you're still enabling eds and prolonging recovery by using cw
food is unavoidable. every single trigger in the entire world should be respected, even if you find them ridiculous. but you're not helping the people triggered by food on twitter by enabling them to avoid it. they will still see food, confront it, and yes, eat it, in real life.
the point of the matter is that yes someone with an ed seeing food can be triggered by it, but helping someone to "avoid food" on twitter to avoid being triggered in that moment does nothing because that person WILL see food in real life later that day. theres no avoiding it
you have to understand even if you want to help, you're enabling people and pushing them further away from recovery. the process of recovery is normalizing and confronting food. cw'ing and tw'ing food is warning it, helping people to avoid something they WILL see anyway.
so no, you're not in any way helping the people currently with the ed. understand that. and all you do by putting a tw or a cw on the mention of food is hurting the people in the process of recovery from an ed by saying food should be hidden, not talked about, warned, etc.
food should not have a warning. it is necessary to live, and not a single person reading your tweets is not confronting it every single day, multiple times. especially if they have an ed, because having an ed means you're pretty much always thinking about it.
i know there are people with trauma related to food, i know binging and purging and not eating/avoiding is not the only type of ed. i'm well aware, and it's hard. eds are so hard. but fact of the matter is every single person alive right now is confronting food daily
cw isn't any better. its literally a letter off of tw, its the same thing. content warning means avoid this to not be triggered if you have this trigger. trigger warning means avoid this to not be triggered if you have this trigger. they are both still warnings!
i know people on twitter want to help, but so many people with/in recovery from eds have spoken up about how harmful it is to see a warning on food. reminding us about our ed, instead of it just being food again, like water is just water. so please listen to us
tw'ing and cw'ing food is the same thing. food should not have a warning. you are hurting people by putting a warning on food. all that does is enable behaviour that literally kills people, trigger the people in recovery, and stigmatize food, a necessity to live, as bad.
adding this thread on that further elaborates on why tw'ing food is harmful if you still don't get why https://twitter.com/avatarsiove/status/1295436942616584193
