A review and analysis of “Blonde” by Frank Ocean ⬇️
Blonde starts off with Nikes which is a younger frank describing how he wants success and fame. Nike’s are the metaphor for this. This track features some emotional lines like “I’m not him but i’ll mean something to you”
In the song “Ivy” we see the start of the relationship that this album is based around. Lines like “I thought that I was dreaming when you said you loved me” signify the start of a relationship.
“Pink + White” is Franks peak happiness on the album and is the most happy sounding track. Basically him living his life care free with the person he loves and just having fun.
“Solo” is frank and his partner starting to realize that they are too different for each other to stay together. Frank try’s to fight this (We don’t have to be solo)
“Skyline To” shows the end of Franks relationship that he hasn’t quite processed yet. He’s still doing all the same things he did before but it doesn’t feel the same without his partner.
“Self Control” sees frank reminiscing on his relationship and is probably the most emotional / Sad song on the album. The outro of the song features some of the best vocals i’ve ever heard.
The short song “Good Guy” Features Frank going out to a gay bar to find new love but the person he meets isn’t interested in anything more that a one night stand.
“Nights” is Frank going about his life until in 2005, Hurricane Katrina (Represented by the beat switch) hit his hometown and he was forced to move in with someone that he would develop an interest in. It is unknown if this is connected to previous mentioned relationships.
“Solo (Reprise)” Is actually by André 3000 and he is reading out whatever is going through franks mind after the events of “Nights”
“Pretty Sweet” Has the same idea as the previous track in that it’s all over the place and represents what’s going on in Franks mind.
In the short song “Close to you” Frank details the ending of a relationship, possibly with who he was talking about in the second half of “nights”.
“White Ferrari” is a very personal track, it details Franks first relationship at the age of 16. Eventually the relationship fell through.
“Seigfried” is a track of Frank either reminiscing on a past relationship or trying to maintain a current one. The repeated lines at the end of the song “I’d do anything for you” lead me to believe this.
“Godspeed” sees frank coming to terms with being single and and agreeing with his ex that they will always love eachother but they are too different to be together.
The final track “Futura Free” is Frank in the present looking back on it all and being happy with where he ended up. He talks to his mom about how he went from just being a normal guy to the frank ocean that we know today.
Summary: Blonde is my favorite album ever made because it’s always there for you when you need it. There’s a song for every feeling you have and a full listen is incredible.

Favorite Songs: Nike’s, Pink+White, Self Control, Pretty Sweet, Futura Free

Final Rating: 10/10
