The Weeknd’s “House Of Balloons” explained song by song

Rt’s appreciated ❤️
High for this:
This first song is a very bass heavy track where The Weeknd and a girl are about to have sex, but before they do he is trying to convince to her try drugs with him, assuring her that everything is gonna be okay and she’s going to want to be high for it
What You Need:
The sound of this song is very different from the previous, on this song The Weeknd is basically telling the girl that the guy she is with isn’t enough for her and she doesn’t need him, and that the life he leads is what she needs and how he can treat her better
(House Of Balloons) / Glass Table Girls:
The first half of this track is The Weeknd painting an imagine of a party where everyone Is sad and depressed but he tried to convince them that they’re having a great time and that they’re all happy, with lines like
1/2
“If it hurts to breathe, open a window” is saying that they hot boxed the entire house to the point where they can’t even breathe, and others likes like “Your mind wants to leave but you can’t go” is symbolizing depression, that he trapped in this house of balloons he created 2/2
House Of Balloons / (Glass Table girls):
The second half of the song isn’t anything too crazy, it’s a sort of sinister and bass filled instrumental, just a drug induced verse talking about about the sex and drugs he’s doing while snorting coke off a 707 table
The Morning:
The contrast between HOB/GTG and The morning is clear as day and night, this song is him reflecting and looking forwards, because he can only really think in the morning because at nights he’s always drugged up partying, he’s singing about he want to escape this
1/2
House of balloons he’s created and is trapped in, also getting prepared to do what he did the previous night all over again yet not wanting to do it at the same time but he has no choice because he is trapped
2/2
Wicked Games:
On this song The Weeknd has lost all confidence in himself, as a result he resorts to strippers and prostitutes hoping that it will help while at the same time knowing it won’t be anything serious but he’s desperate for any bit of confidence he can get so he
1/2
does it anyways trying to pick himself back up
The Party & The After Party:
In the first half of this song The Weeknd is trying to seduce a girl to hook up with him for the night, there isn’t anything too crazy about the lyrics in this half but the delivery and the instrumental make it very enjoyable
1/2
The second half of this song is where it shines lyrically, in this half he isn’t gonna pretend like he’s looking for a serious relationship and admits thats he just wants him and her to feel good for the night with drugs and sex
2/2
Coming Down:
In this song he is singing about forgetting about this girl when he’s high and having sex at parties and doesn’t care about her until he is coming down and feels lonely in the morning, because as I said earlier, he can only think and reflect in the morning
Loft Music:
There isn’t much to this song, he’s not singing for long but while he is he’s describing an encounter he had with a girl and trying to convince her to have sex with him in his loft downtown, this song isn’t one of my favorite off the mixtape but the outro
1/2
Is definitely a highlight
2/2
The Knowing:
On this track The Weeknd finds out the girl he was with had cheated on him, despite having had cheated on her multiple times before in the last he gets his ego shattered but still feels no remorse for cheating, but in the pre chorus he mentions that he’s fine
1/3
With her cheating on him but you can hear the pain in his voice and he is clearly hurt, during the second verse he explains that after he found out their relationship wasn’t the same but still tries to convince her and himself that he’s okay, and all the pain he’s caused
2/3
Came back to him, which is a perfect way to end this mixtape.
3/3
