When I see MedTwitter complaining about sacrificing their 20/30's & never getting weekends/holidays or able to see family I'm struck by how disconnected some ppl are from the reality of low SES individuals. I don't comment on those posts bc struggling in any form is valid, but /
..no one I knew was partying in their 20's. No one around me was getting vacations/holidays off. Min wage jobs don't come w/ holidays or weekends off. I never got days off even if I was ill. No insurance to see a Dr but a note was required (which I couldn't afford) so you work/
Most people I knew never got time off for family emergencies or funerals. It isn't fun in the sun. It's two jobs. It's not home ownership, it's renting trailers with poor insulation. The narrative that the other half is living it up & you've missed out? That's privilege/
A *huge* mountain of it. Most people are working their asses off & will never see anything for it aside from breaking their bodies down. If you gave your youth toward something meaningful like medicine...I'm so envious /
That said, you've every right to be exhausted, burned out & overwhelmed. Medicine is a hard calling & can be abusive. I don't want to imply venting isn't ok (which is why I've never 'well, actually' anyone's tweets) Just shocks me ppl think the average person gets those things
I'm going to try to address some misunderstandings about my intent & than mute this.

1) Everyone has the right to bitch about work
2) No matter what your salary, 12+ hr days are brutal
3) It sucks to not get days off or see family. Just bc others don't doesn't make it ok
4) You have no obligation to consider every demographic when you vent abt your day
5) This post was not abt comparison to others
6) This wasn't a dump on MedTwitter
7) I always assume others have it worse than me bc inner lives hide a lot
I had no idea this would strike the nerve it did. I see a lot of ppl agreeing & feeling seen, I think bc poverty isn't talked about. It's a shameful subject, but shouldn't be. I also see ppl getting defensive. This wasn't an attack or judgement.
This was an observation due to several posts over many months (none of which I posted on) It was me trying to educate on how others are living. That's it. If you already knew, cool! If not, cool! That's it. I've never subscribed to the suffering Olympics. ALL suffering is valid
Well, if this is going to be RT this many times, I might as well try to amplify this thread which I feel is actually the one that needs to be RTed the most https://twitter.com/appyjumpindaze/status/1283282227007295489
