This story was our first visual look into the events just after Return of the Jedi (this came out before the novel Aftermath). Instead of focusing on the main cast, they are supporting characters to Kes Dameron and Shara Bey, Poe Dameron's parents.
While Kes serves with Han Solo, Shara handles mop up work as an A-Wing pilot for Green Squadron. Shara will eventually fly Leia to Naboo, and work with Luke Skywalker to secure branches of the tree from the Jedi Temple.
The writing and art are very well done, and the action in space and on the ground just make it feel like the movies continue. We get the Battle of Naboo, which would br seen in more detail in the video game Battlefront 2.
We also see the beginning of Operation: Cinder as covered in Aftermath and Battlefront 2. We also get the best action scene with Luke Skywalker as he turns the tables on Imperials in issue 4. The series ends with Shara planting the other sapling she helped Luke rescue.
Shattered Empire would launch a new form of story telling in the new canon. With a new film coming in just under 2 months, they didn't want to focus on the main cast. Which is understandable. So, new characters would be added.
Here we get Poe's parents and a connection to the new trilogy. Just as in Aftermath we get Snap Wexley, who would sadly lose his life in Episode 9. But Shattered Empire was the beginning of something new.
While I am a huge Legends fan, this is a series I read again and again. Great story, great art and great fun! End thread.
