I was walking along the corridor in the hospital and sighted this man standing just close to the pharmacy; just as I was about to pass by I slowed down my pace because the earlier eye contact from a distance suggested he wanted to say something. as I passed by I heard him whisper
“Pls can I talk to you? ... I leaned in with my ear 👂🏾... he whipped out a paper 📝 with list of drugs and the total cost. Can you help me with little cash to buy some of these drugs? I took a look and the list; filled with medications for high blood pressure and heart failure 😔
“Come with me sir” I took him to the pharmacy; had a few words with the pharmacist and paid for his drugs and left ... as i walked away I was just happy at what a privilege it was to have been the one to meet his needs; and the happiness in his eyes knowing he’ll have his meds
Society hasn’t been kind to the aged. I wish the government would start paying more attention to the geriatrics part of our healthcare; subsidizing medications for old people, setting up walk-in kitchens for them to eat free healthy meals and perhaps to network within themselves.
