Once again, as far as we can tell, the notion that Facebook intends to preventi artists from live streaming their own material is just not true. (Thread)
It is ironic that this misinformation is going viral on Facebook!
What’s really happening is that Facebook struck a bunch of new licensing deals with music rights holders, both labels and publishers, as well as aggregators representing self-released artists. This actually is going to result in more licensed use of music on Facebook, not less!
But the licenses don’t cover all kinds of music uses, or all music. Facebook wants to make it clear that users can’t just upload music that they don’t own, the way that people often do with YouTube.
But that doesn’t prevent you from performing your own material as a live stream.
