If you pay attention you’ll notice prejudice & racism everywhere. My family & I evacuated to a hotel. I’m staying in a separate room from my eldest son & his family. Today we ate breakfast together in the hotel lobby area. Before sitting down to eat I had got some drinks from..
the snack area & charged it to my room. The woman didn’t ask for my ID. So when my son got up & went to the front desk I heard the woman ask for his ID.
I immediately turned to see what was going on bc she didn’t ask for mine. When I saw he was getting a new room key I brushed..
it off. She should definitely ask for ID for a room key. We finished breakfast & left for our rooms. My key didn’t work so I grabbed my ID & headed back to the lobby. I told the woman I needed a new key - told her my name & room number & started to hand her my ID...
She glanced at it in my hand and said oh I don’t need that. To which I said “are you sure? bc you just asked my black son for his ID”. She looked at me confused and shuffled around a bit and handed me my room keys. I didn’t make a scene. Things are already stressful enough...
My son doesn’t know anything happened, but I do & I see this kind of thing happen ALL THE TIME to my loved ones & friends. I plan to file a complaint with the hotel, but for now, we literally need to stay here so I’m going to wait until we check out. Just remember that..
Racism doesn’t always present itself in the most obvious ways. It’s not always in your face and blatant, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not just as harmful. My son didn’t deserve to be treated like that. No one does.
