i deleted twitter for lent and it was one of the best things i’ve ever done for my mental health

since then, i’ve used twitter less and less—usually just for DMs

the long term happiness i’ve felt from doing this is far better than any short term joy i get from looking at memes https://twitter.com/zerunawaybunny/status/1232913564500922369">https://twitter.com/zerunaway...
“omg deleting a form of social media helps your mental health? no shit https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤪" title="Zany face" aria-label="Emoji: Zany face">”

i know this is tired ass advice that everyone hears, but is rarely put into practice.

i loved twitter more than any social media app—until i realized how much better i did mentally without it
i really think it’s about finding a balance, and my way of finding that balance was to do something restrictive first by giving it up for lent.

you’ll naturally start filling your time trying new things, and stop constantly checking your phone
i know it’s obvious, but i don’t see enough people actively encouraging people to go without social media

i see people feign empathy about how “important” mental health is, while still actively using a platform of communication that is notorious for creating toxicity
i spent more time on twitter than any other app, which is why i chose to restrict it

i encourage anyone to try to go without whichever social media app they use the most for a little while, and realize how much you really don’t need it in your life
if you get to the end of this thread and still shrug it off thinking “ok https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit Freudentränen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit Freudentränen">buthttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✨" title="Funken" aria-label="Emoji: Funken">nohttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz">” without at least considering the benefits, then you’re actively ignoring one of the best and most cost effective treatments for what it’s worth
