The last GUNDAM thread got really long & in true comics style it feels time for a relaunch.

Believe it or not, I’ve only really been into this franchise intensely for a year, but there’s a lot I’ve tweeted:
Thread 1: https://twitter.com/arune/status/1184009980560568320?s=21

Thread 2: https://twitter.com/arune/status/1238462381153341441?s=21
Here are my current series rankings:

Group 1 are my favorites and 3-6 move around on any given day.

Ain’t gonna top 00 for me, though Unicorn comes close.

1. 00 (+ATB)
2. Unicorn (+NT)
3. 0080
4. 0079 (movies)
5. Wing (+EW)
6. 08TH MS Team
Group 2 might as well be tied.

The biggest change for me is that IBO slips down the rankings the more I watch, despite the fantastic designs and music.

7. 0083
8. Iron-Blooded Orphans
9. Char’s Counterattack
10. G-Reco
11. F91
12. ZZ
13. Zeta
Group 3 are my least favorite. Anything with an asterisk means I haven’t finished watching it yet so it likely ends up at the bottom for now.

14. The Origin
15. Thunderbolt
16.Age*
http://17.Build  Fighters*
18.Seed*
19.Turn A*
The greatest joy of discovering Gundam has been either making new friends or connecting with old friends on a different level.

Thanks to @McKelvie @TomBrevoort @weredawgz @RiderJetfire @JoeKellyMOA @MarkBrooksArt @zebwells @austin_walker and everyone who’s educated me.
Late to the party, but the Astray frames are some of the best Gundam designs ever.

Red is all time but I’m falling for Noir too.
I cannot stress enough that @GundamPlanet is my top choice for purchasing Gunpla kits online.

Their customer service is beyond compare & run by folks whose focus is growing this hobby.

They’ll recommend perfect kits for you to get started or elevate your journey in the hobby.
I cannot find the words to express how happy this makes me and how much I wanna see this in real life.

The original Gundam RX-78-2 is unbeatable. https://twitter.com/catsuka/status/1308068858541023232
Feelings + giant mechs/robots = my happy place.

The second opening credits to GUNDAM 00 still rule.
Early birthday gift arrived today - my first Metal Build and really excited to pose it...exactly like the box art because I love it.

#EradicatingAllEvilOfTheWorld
The detail here is unreal - and this thing is solid as a rock.

I also love the signature on the base - a great little touch that makes this feel incredibly premium.

#LetsGoFlagFighters
Need to finish a Nemesis Prime but this arrived today from @p_bandai and I’m excited to build it.

Tallgeese is an all time mobile suit design.
I definitely struggle w/the scale of Real Grade kits because of my vision but I get the appeal.

This one has a few challenging areas I didn’t 100% trim great but I’m proud of the panel lining & sticker application.

Starting w/the lower body is definitely different experience
I finished the RG Tallgeese (animation colors) today. I remain impressed by this type of kit but the scale (1/144) along with the intricacy and my eyesight always trips me up. In this case, the shield covers the fact I mangled the left arm.

Still, beautiful kit & lots of fun.
I think the Evangelion Units 00 & 02 will be the last Real Grades I build (short of other Eva RGs or something like Robotech/Macross coming to the line).

My eyes struggle so much with ‘em.
This is well beyond what my budget will ever allow but WOW is it beautiful.

The Metal Spirits Barbatos Lupus Rex is a nice early birthday gift indeed.

Wow.

(Purchased via @GundamPlanet of course)
Even pets like him!
Adding this to Exia Repair IV AKA Graham Gundam, I can definitely see the appeal of the Metal figures especially on those kits that might otherwise be a bit more fragile or have awesome details.

(TL;DR - @MarkBrooksArt was correct)

Hopefully we get MG versions of these someday!
Now it’s time to do some real work, get in the damn robot and build this kit.

As always, go shop at @GundamPlanet and grab all the kits you want from one of the best small businesses around.
As I’ve mentioned, I’m not really a big fan of the Real Grade kits. Perhaps I’m still not skilled enough, but my crap vision makes them hard.

However, the Evangelion kits are wonderful - the Unit 01 chest piece brought down that kit for me, but the overall experience rocks.
Incredible color separation, really amazing attention to detail and a ton of poseability. These things are solid and it helps that the build is different than any Gundam.

(The only Gundam RG I love is the Nu)
The colour separation on this Eva Unit 00 is unreal.
Uh, this new Perfect Grade Unleashed looks AMAZING.

On a related note, my birthday is on Saturday... https://twitter.com/JosephH32149678/status/1313722408185065473
Finished Eva Unit 00.

I’m shocked how much I enjoyed this build, especially for a Real Grade but each of these Eva units continues to have issues with loose upper arms.
Knowing the Eva Unit 02 will be dual wielding progressive knives, it’s been a challenge to find cool gun poses without an action base.
I’ve been thinking a lot about storytelling as it comes to posing these kits and I’m looking forward to Eva Unit 02 joining these two very soon.
It’s both my birthday weekend and (Canadian) Thanksgiving weekend so I’m definitely building another kit.

This time it’s one @weredawgz recommended (of course purchased from @GundamPlanet), namely the Freedom Gundam.
Got the Gundam NT blu ray from @rightstufanime today and it’s not only usually the same excellent quality transfer, but the included art book is a blast.

I know this movie ain’t what everyone wanted but I dig it and the Miracle Children.
After a birthday full of racists, bigots and general shitty people, it’s nice to end the day with some Gunpla.

This MG Freedom Gundam is a fun build thus far though my panel line game hasn’t been at its best.
Got my mind in other places tonight but made a bit of progress on the MG Freedom Gundam.

Panel lining on the torso didn’t turn out well but I’m happier on the other spaces.

And getting better at some dynamic posing.
The MG Freedom main body is done but still got the Rail Gun, Wing Unit & Weapons to go.

(Sorry @GundamPlanet, I build weapons at the end)

It’s an incredibly fun build & this Gundam has a ton of character. Been getting lucky with stickers here & love how it’s come together.
Added the rail guns & some beam sabers but the wings are gonna require focus I don’t have right now, so those can wait till the weekend.

As @weredawgz promised, the MG Freedom Gundam 2.0 is a truly fantastic kit and worth building even if (like me) you’re not a big SEED fan.
The recently announced Real Grade Evangelion Unit 08 is beautiful.

The only downside to these kits is that they often naturally make more sense in crouched positions given their weapons (other than Unit 02). I wish some had pistols, AT fields, shields or other accessories.
Finished the MG Freedom Gundam today. The backpack was way easier than I anticipated and the whole build really was a blast.

Big thanks to @weredawgz for the recommendation and glad I found it at @GundamPlanet (AKA my favorite place to purchase Gunpla kits).
And here’s the full 360 degree view of how it looks. I may swap out weapons at some point but I dig the Darth Maul weapon and overall pose.
Now onto another Real Grade - nah, I haven’t turned around on this grade yet but I bought this months ago from @GundamPlanet and have heard nothing but good things about it.
Not much progress on the Unicorn as it’s been somehow both a far too long & far too short weekend.

It’s definitely a much better build than the MG, but I think I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.

I don’t know why I enjoy stickers so much on RGs, but I’m sure adding a lot.
If you wanna get into #Gunpla - building Gundam model kits - this thread below is pretty damn excellent. https://twitter.com/evantickles/status/1321552841534656512
