Unsolicited advice for those requesting letters to any faculty esp. women of color:
1. Everybody & their MAMA has asked the same scholar 4 a LOR
2. LOR season is now year round & every recipient has different req. on how/where/method of submission
3. give letter writer 4-6 weeks

4. Don’t keep adding letters even if you “just saw this opportunity.”
5. Spread the workload across multiple mentors 6. Provide a packet with clear deadlines, your cv, stmt, AND the description of opportunity and 7. Send friendly reminders 8 THANK them 4 the LOR

Theses thoughts are basic requirements as every faculty member has different criteria. Communicate early and recognize this is part of our job and that long lead times and clear instructions are always appreciated.
