Christian, if the only framework you have for thinking about the world is the "liberal" vs. "conservative" binary (or some cipher for this), you will be given to...
- False accusation/ slander
- Politicizing what you should be gospelizing
(cont'd)
- Reinforcing a strain of self-righteousness (regardless of your claims to defending the gospel)
- Straw man arguments (Creating fictional enemies that don't exist or attributing views to your opponents that they do not actually hold)
- Treating friends as enemies and enemies as friends (Failing at love)
- Undermining the disciplinary process of the church. (Especially in connectional churches.)
- Undermining the global and historic witness of the church (which has given us an abundance of helpful frameworks, perspectives, and analytical tools that are not Western American)
- Ignorance and hubris (an ugly duo)
- Ecclesiastical narcissism that undermines the Catholicity of the church.
- Fomenting a spirit of fear, rather than the spirit of power, love & self control.
- Reinforcing a dysfunctional way of navigating difference in God's church.
If, in your analysis, you can't penetrate beyond this binary framework. Maybe you should....and I say this in love....be quiet and learn from the global and historic church. Let the one's who have ears....
