Five LAPD holding down and arresting a reporter who identified herself. She was covering a protest at the hospital where two officers were being treated for shooting wounds. https://laist.com/latest/post/20200913/80222d039da6e2435bed1e10df36e367457cd4af https://twitter.com/TheChalkOutline/status/1305030195066236928
Last tweet before @josie_huang made before she was dragged to the ground and arrested. LAPD had tweeted that protestors were blocking the hospital entry. You don't have to with the protester to believe police should not round up reporters for covering it. https://twitter.com/josie_huang/status/1305102941624229889?s=20
"She was released at about 4 a.m. without bail, but was cited with an obstruction charge. A KPCC newsroom executive said Huang had visible bruises and scrapes, a sore shoulder and a blackened eye." https://laist.com/latest/post/20200913/80222d039da6e2435bed1e10df36e367457cd4af
LA County Sheriff Dept's (not LAPD as a I said above) account. Sounds very much like they did not want her to record the arrest. Reports say she *was* wearing press credentials. Who believes that she did not identify herself as press as five people were pinning her to the ground?
LA County Sheriffs: Josie Huang did not identify herself as a reporter and did not have "proper" press credentials. Multiple on-site reporters say she did identify herself, and you can she wearing credentials around her neck when arrested.
Arresting her is bad, lying is worse.
You can see the video of the arrest she was taking when officers told her to back up and immediately arrrested her. She posed no threat and was not interfering with the arrest they were making, contrary to what LA County Sheriffs claimed. https://twitter.com/josie_huang/status/1305264301104680961?s=21 https://twitter.com/josie_huang/status/1305264301104680961
She clearly identifies herself as a reporter, again contrary to what LASD reported. They then kept her cuffed so she was unable to put her face mask on while in custody (thread).
They assaulted a reporter for doing her job and then lied about it. https://twitter.com/josie_huang/status/1305265081144410112?s=21 https://twitter.com/josie_huang/status/1305265081144410112
All public organizations make mistakes, but the crisis of policing is not one of error, but a willingness to lie about and defend the indefensible. Its a massive voluntary surrendering of legitimacy. https://twitter.com/josie_huang/status/1305331513592967168?s=20
