If you take Lenin’s theory of imperialism seriously then an analysis of our current international conditions would entail that there are no longer any economic relations that are not also imperialist relations.
Lenin’s definition of imperialism isn’t the bourgeoisie definition of a traditional military invasion. It is the taking control of a foreign economy through finance and monopoly capital which restructures the foreign economy to the benefit of the imperialist economy.
Just because you don’t see guns doesn’t mean an economy isn’t engaging in imperialism. In fact, a good way to figure out if a nation is imperialist is to inspect the arguments made in its defense. Are these arguments similar to bourgeoisie arguments?
