Everything Trump does is devastatingly unpopular, but he’s been allowed to run rampant across our civil society by feckless Democratic leaders, who are scared to challenge most of his abuses directly and think the safest course is to let him self-destruct https://twitter.com/karentravers/status/1305103219182522370?s=21
Trump, for his part, has no intention of being similarly passive, and has brought down everything from the DOJ to the CDC to the USPS in his campaign of self-preservation. He’s generated a massive, violent right-wing cult, and clearly is going to make a run at democracy itself.
Underlying all of this is a refusal of our election-drunk society to acknowledge that society has dimensions that can’t be collapsed into “which side polls better?” Trump can be unpopular but still deeply dangerous. The threat doesn’t cease to exist just because 50%+1 oppose him.
I was asked "What could Dems have done differently?"
