Might be a hot take, but rather than immediately “cancelling” people who go out for reasons other than work/errands, think we should focus more on encouraging safer activities like take-out, walking, running, cycling, & going to outdoor parks, and practicing safety measures.
I think an important part of staying healthy this pandemic is caring for your mental health, as it can also affect your physical health. A simple change of scenery, especially if it’s in a park or somewhere green, is an easy and affordable way to improve your mood.
I think it would be better to promote and clearly communicate safe activities to do outside as well as safety measures to take rather than be draconian about it and risk people eventually imploding & potentially doing riskier activities after reaching their breaking point.
Ngl: Being draconian about people staying home kind of reeks of privilege. Not everyone has a Switch to distract themselves with or space to feel less claustrophobic. 😅 Everyone, regardless of class, deserves some enjoyment. Just need to be safe about it.
Some additional notes for clarification as some concerns have been brought up to me:

I think there are important things to consider when assessing the risk level of an activity: distance, duration, and ventilation. This @voxdotcom explains it well!
My point in sharing this take is that I think it’s better to promote safer activities & having clear guidelines than automatically being draconian about everything, the latter of which could lead to people engaging in riskier behavior as a result of reaching their breaking point.
There are still activities that are unsafe, inconsiderate, and disrespectful to our front-liners, and I think it’s perfectly fine to call people out when they engage in these activities and hold them accountable.
The bigger issue, really, is that this lockdown didn’t have to go on for this long and we’re still in quarantine because of the greed, ineptitude, and corruption of our national government.
