In Dubai ppl use cab when going out to clubs, bars, restaurants - especially if they’ll be drinking. Majority cab drivers are Pakistani men. A lot of women travel alone in these cabs in the wee hours but they aren’t raped.
Society’s mindset needs to change, but the system first.
Yahan aa kar kaisay insaan bun jatay hein?
State has to take ownership of the safety and security of its citizens. They have to send the message instead of outsourcing the responsibility on to people and making excuses for those whose job this is doing the same.
My 14 year old goes to a public beach with her friends. I have taken a cab to and from the airport in the middle of the night several times on my own. My husband cannot be chaperoning us 24/7. No father, brother, husband etc, if there is one, can.
State provides safety.
It’s the certainty of punishment instead of the severity that stops them. They know the police will get them instead of asking the woman why she was there.
4% of the reported cases reach conviction after years in Pakistan. This hang the rapist is nothing but a distraction tactic.
Start with making sure all cases can be reported, the victim/survivors is ensured justice, raise convictions - then skin those swines for all anyone cares, but there is a case every hour, hanging some of those 4% after years of mental trauma won’t do diddly squat.
Because 96% of the reported will still know they can get away. And it is estimated only half the total incidents are reported. So do the math.
Correct me if this has changed, but according to the law in Pakistan, “rape” only takes place with a girl or woman. So 47% of the victims that are young boys are not even covered by the law.
Why is nothing done about that?
