y’all don’t realise that a fandom can actually make you distance yourself from a group. you subconsciously associate the fandom with the artist especially when its marketed as being “a family”. if something’s counterpart is toxic you feel you have to leave the whole thing

if you naturally move away from the fandom you also end up leaving all of the “good” parts behind, the fan content and interacting with people who have a shared love, your attention shifts from one group/fandom to the other bc you don’t feel as connected with them anymore

plus being part of a fandom who all collectively agree that you’re “not really a stan” bc you listen to other groups, drag your other ults on the daily and start unnecessary fanwars. it does impact people’s mental health and it’s not edgy to make fun of it

it’s simply psychology really and it’s not that hard to understand. it’s completely valid when people say “i had to unstan bc of the fandom” or “i had to leave the fandom but i still listen to the group”. stop clowning ppl for this bc u just cement how awful you are as people

quick disclaimer i did have a fandom i mind when i made this post but it’s valid for ANY fandom/group. this also doesn’t mean that i don’t ult the group anymore, i still absolutely love them i just personally can’t be around the fandom and thats fine :)

also to clarify i said “subconsciously” which means people don’t purposefully associate fandom/group your brain just does it for being involved in the fandom ,, and “distance” which means taking a step back but not completely unstanning :)
