Ok I’m bored so here’s a Dalek Building thread
The neck section always puts me off, however after spotting some kits on eBay that we’re easy assemble I thought I’d get back into Dalek building
Going for a late 60s type which meant creating “egg cup” dome lights and a base plate in 3D to be printed, once filled and sanded moulds were taken to cast the bulb in resin and the base plate with cold cast aluminium powder
Really happy with how these turned out
The eye stalk and ball were the next for the 3D printing treatment
Had the eye disks laser cut locally and after plenty of filling and sanding
I drew up some cads of the skirt section which I was able to turn into files for laser cutting (big time saver) the panels were pinned in place while I strengthened the joins with fibreglass tape and resin
I also had the inner dome disk laser cut to save time
Eyeball Mk2: I thought I wasn’t bothered about having an adjustable iris in this build... then I changed my mind. I couldn’t find any files online to 3D print one for a classic series Dalek I bought one on eBay meant for a new series Dalek but it wasn’t a fit
I found the files to print all the parts for the mechanical iris for a new series Dalek and modified them to fit in a classic eye, (currently waiting for a new part to print that’s 4mm shorter to fit the servo
But otherwise happy with how it’s looking
