This week #LFC manager Jürgen Klopp said “We’re a different kind of club. We cannot just change it overnight and say, ‘So now we want to behave like Chelsea, now we want to behave like them’.” The implication that LFC are a morally superior club. Here’s why that’s bullshit THREAD
/ When #LFC hierarchy wanted to expand Anfield, they bought houses surrounding the stadium on Lothair Road and Anfield Road before expanding to Hartnup Street, Donaldson Street, Granton Road, Salisbury Road, and St Domingo Vale. They evicted tenants and left the houses to rot...
/ The vacant houses became targets to arsonists, drug dealers and even one woman was murdered. They engineered the economics of the area, meaning the once thriving community was ruined and they got the remaining houses for a knock down price...
/ Leaving residents out of pocket who had lived there for decades. Because the area got so bad due to their own actions, when the stadium expansion plans went in, #LFC said it was to regenerate an area in decline. When it was them who made it that way.
/ #LFC call themselves a people’s club, remember.
/ Onto FFP. In the 2012/13 season, #LFC fiddled their accounts to escape punishment from UEFA. They were £90m over in losses and only managed to escape punishment by including TV money for the following season. Yet they complained to UEFA when #ManCity did something similar.
/ Recruitment. #Southampton reported #LFC to the Premier League for tapping up #VanDijk the club admitted it, apologised and said they would drop their interest. Yet she signed for the club 6 months later. No compensation was given to Southampton for their illegal approach...
/ #Klopp even met #VVD in Blackpool to outline his vision, yet he wasn’t given permission. The same Klopp taking the moral high ground this week about transfers? Yep.
/ Speaking of recruitment. The innovative way Michael Edwards and #Klopp have identified talent has set them apart right? Wrong. They had to pay £1m settlement when they were found hacking Man City’s scouting reports...
/ Imagine the uproar if it was the other way around? Had UEFA got involved, it would #LFC out of Europe and a huge fine. But remember #LFC voted against City at the CAS for being unsporting. Yep I know, I know.
/ Onto the next issue. New Balance had a contract in place to supply #LFC with kit for three years. Yet LFC broke it when Nike came calling, as Nike had a better distribution so NB wasn’t relevant. They knew any fine would be nowhere near what they would earn...
/ .. that was the only reason they had for breaking a contract. Nike was bigger and would pay them more. They gambled and where lucky the judge found in their favour. Legal? Maybe. Moral? Absolutely not.
/ Next onto Staff. #LFC made £13m for reaching the UCL final. Yet in March, LFC wanted to furlough their staff during the Covid crisis. They pleaded poverty and said they couldn’t pay staff wages. It was only after the uproar that LFC backtracked...
/ ...fast forward to the season end. LFC lift the EPL trophy, a presentation that cost the club £1m. Or the equivalent of paying for all the staff they wanted to furlough. But remember they said they were struggling financially?
/ so in short, the people’s club ruined their own community for the purposes of greed, cheated then complained about others cheating, broke UEFA law then reported others for doing the same and won more prize money than any other club and pleaded poverty.
/ So before we get into actions of fans nearly burning down the city, trashing it during a supposed lockdown, this is purely about the leadership of the club.
/ But remember, they’re not like Chelsea or Man City 🙄🙄
/ In conclusion, I’m sure football is full of dodgy dealings and no megaclub is innocent, but don’t come out and pretend you’re morally superior or “well run”. #LFC aren’t owned by oligarchs or nations, but have acted like slum lords and gangsters...
/ #Chelsea paid tens of millions to give nearby residents a fair price when they wanted to expand, #ManCity have ploughed billions into East Mancs and #ManUnited have helped underprivileged families through a pandemic yet Klopp comes out and says that. It’s shameful.
/ Before the finger pointing starts, I’m a Tranmere fan and have seen first hand the way #LFC have been. Before anyone thinks I’m a biased City/Chelsea/United fan with an axe to grind.
/ To quote #Rafa these are the facts.
