THREAD: this may seem a strange time for a year in review, but exactly 12 months ago, I embarked on the first stage of my #writing career. It's been a kind of post-uni gap year, laying foundations and building up a portfolio. I thought I'd do a bit of reflecting to celebrate...
I absolutely hate blowing my own trumpet, but I think it's important that I appreciate my achievements and all the work I've put in, rather than constantly pushing forward and ignoring all the steps I've made to get to where I am today. So, time to reflect! 😳
The first big project was a #tvshow I started at @arvonfoundation with the help of @DianeSetterfie1 and @RussLitten. It took me a few months but I wrote all six episodes in full. It's the longest script I've written and I'm seriously proud of it 🤓 https://twitter.com/EmReaderWriter/status/1219567974492844032?s=20
February was a flurry of @NewsjackBBC submissions, resulting in two one liners and one sketch making the edits. I was lucky enough to see them performed live with @hthjones. Getting paid for my work was a pretty big deal for me! 🤩 https://twitter.com/EmReaderWriter/status/1232389498337710080?s=20
Pre-pandemic, I pursued several other passions and hobbies. #Cello is a massive part of my life and I've loved being a part of @lvgorchestra and @LMTOrch

Doing the lighting for @Hivemindimprov has also been incredible. Such an epic, hilarious bunch of people and so much to be learned from the tech booth!
Then a big old #pandemic hit. Luckily, my friends and family helped me transform my stage play into a two-part #AudioDrama. With some advice from @PodiumMe, I learned how to edit and produce it myself, and it now has worldwide listens! All through the year, I've been submitting to competitions with mostly negative results. June and July brought better news, with shortlists and honourable mentions from @OwdyadoTheatre, @ScriptsandCo and @Ghostcowprods. It makes a huge different to know judges respect my work 😌
In August, one of my scripts was performed at a Dapper Sandwich scratch night. You can watch it here (skip to 01:31:00) 👇
Through it all, I've been writing #monologues, #audiodrama, #shortfilms, TV pilots, treatments, attending #webinars, and doing every @writers_hq exercise I can find. I've entered over 80 #competitions (thanks @bbcwritersroom 😉) and emailed over 50 #agents.
It hasn't been easy. I've had big bouts of feeling uninspired. I get rejection emails constantly. Finding a healthy writing habit is really hard in a #lockdown. But I've learned so much and I'm really proud of what I've achieved this year.
There's plenty more in the pipeline too! Juggling #writing and everything else is going to get harder from now on, but I've got a promising script that someone wants to read and several projects on their way to being made. Stay tuned, this #writer is up and coming 💪
