Curious. Has anyone laid out concrete reasons for building shiny apps instead of using out-of-the-box enterprise software like Tableau? I am obviously for the former, but I want to make sure I have the reasons properly laid out.
Two that stand out to me:

Flexibility: this is huge. Being able to completely design the dashboard /app is attractive. It could also be a drawback if complexity gets to high.

R: having a native connection to R (or possibly even python) is attractive.
One drawback for me though is setting up Shiny in an enterprise environment could be a pain if you don’t have proper software engineering support (for setting up the server).
Basically I’m looking for use-cases or examples to convince stakeholders to go with Shiny over something like Tableau. By the way, I think software like Tableau is great, but I prefer flexible tools.
