Secession is a good option for bringing socialism to the US, a thread. 1/12

Secession is when one part of a country leaves to form its own country. This can happen peacefully or violently, and can be one sided (unilateral) where the region decides to leave without asking permission or it can be voted on as a nation. 2/12

In the US, secession is LEGAL. Texas v White determined unilateral (one sided) secession to be illegal, but this law can be changed and its not in the constitution. Secession by decision as a country is perfectly legal even now. 3/12

Secession is popular. In March 2017 32% of polled Californians supported forming its own country, but you may not know about “Calexit” as it faces a media blackout. California has the 5th largest economy in the world & is a global hub for many industries. We'd be fine alone. 4/12

The Western US (called the Oregon Country) was its own country up until 1843. This means other non-native countries have existed next to the US before manifest destiny took root in the American psyche, and not that long ago. The US as it stands is a short lived myth. 5/12

Manifest destiny, the idea that it's obvious for the US to stretch from coast to coast, is INHERENTLY racist and genocidal. Secession would allow us to decolonize native lands that are kept as parks and BLM land now. Decolonization is impossible without regime change. 6/12

What about leaving our marginalized comrades in the South behind? The threat of communism was KEY to the success of the civil rights movement. A socialist state next door could pressure the US in ways we cant from within the US now. There is no more commie boogeyman to help. 7/12

What about state interdependence? Water is often cited as a huge issue, but many countries have water agreements with neighbors. Bangladesh, Egypt, and Hungary all rely on neighbors for over 90% of their water. We're in more danger now of Nestle tapping our water anyway. 8/12

Which states would come? Some have proposed the country of "Cascadia" as an option, but growing the secession movement now is more important than the details. Washington, Oregon, and California are most likely to come though. 9/12

When regions in other countries such as Quebec or Scotland talk about secession, it’s often met with support from freedom loving Americans, but propagandists make it seem like a totally different issue here. It’s not. They are just citizens forming new nations like us. 10/12

Secession is our best option for the bloodless formation of a socialist state in North America. Capitalists and imperialist spooks are terrified of it BECAUSE it could be bloodless. They propagandize the Civil War endlessly to keep us scared of violence from secession. 11/12

The Civil War had popular support because of the easy (and moral) propaganda against slavery. Capitalists know the modern secession movement has morality on its side, so the only thing they can try to do is convince us it’s impossible. Free your mind of imperial propaganda! 12/12
