thread on performative activism if you don’t understand how it’s unnecessary and harmful
performative activism is a term referring to activism done to bost your social audience/make yourself seem like your advocating for someone or something rather than being devoted/ raising full awareness for the cause at hand
the use of this is extremely harmful and down putting towards people who are affected by whatever the matter is, using pure human rights as an “aesthetic” or to make yourself seem like you’re speaking up about the problem makes yourself THE PROBLEM
such things as decorative headers, “aesthetic” black lives matter posts and spam tags in things like “i demand justice for breonna taylor” are not helping the problem at hand at all, if anything they are making them seem like you do not care and are trying to prove you +
stand for things without the effort of actually raising proper awareness. instead of doing this, you can SIGN PETITIONS, TWEET AWARENESS AND EDUCATE PEOPLE ON THE MATTER AND TRY TO COMFORT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE EFFECTED BY THE PROBLEMS GOING ON AT THE TIME.
