Trump has named 45 people to his SCOTUS shortlist. Only 2 are Black. Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron -- the only Black lawyer of the 20 names announced yesterday -- is 34, has only practiced law for 9 years, and refuses to charge the officers who killed Breonna Taylor. #SheWillRise
It's not surprising that Trump has no Black women lawyers on his SCOTUS list. Of his 53 circuit judges, the level just below the Supreme Court, 0 are Black.

Today the Senate is confirming 3 more Trump judges, for 208 total. Only 9 are Black. Only 2 are Black women. #SheWillRise
Systemic racism in America persists, in part, because our courts, legislatures, and civil services have always been predominantly white and male. The white male experience has defined the moral compass that undergirds our laws and policies. #SheWillRise
In a democracy of, for, and by the people, freedom and liberty can’t be delivered to all until our institutions authentically reflect the extraordinary diversity of people, perspectives, and contributions that make our country special. #SheWillRise
Not one Black woman has ever been even nominated to serve on the SCOTUS. This is a consequence of systemic racism & an erosion of trust especially felt amongst Black women, who repeatedly turn out in record numbers to represent our communities through our vote. #SheWillRise
In U.S. history, there have been 114 Supreme Court justices, but only 4 women & 3 justices of color. Justice Sotomayor is the only WOC to serve as a justice. It is past time for a Black woman to be nominated to the SCOTUS & it's up to all of us to demand It happens. #SheWillRise
The Supreme Court would benefit from a Black woman justice sharing her point of view in deliberation with colleagues, to foster a more complete awareness of the variety of litigants and communities future rulings may impact disproportionately.
#SheWillRise
We are demanding the placement of the 1st Black woman Supreme Court Justice & we need your help to discuss why this historic move is not only the next logical step in the court’s history, but a critical move toward expanding the diversity of a key branch of gov't. #SheWillRise
SCOTUS should act to protect the ability of folks to vote & have their vote counted, but the Court has recently been an opponent of voting rights. During the pandemic, SCOTUS stepped in to prevent states from taking common sense steps to enable people to vote safely. #SheWillRise
The Supreme Court plays a huge role in maintaining and expanding civil and human rights in this country.

Getting a Black woman on the Supreme Court is so important for having representation that understands the unique needs of Black & brown people. #SheWillRise
Marginalized communities in the U.S., particularly communities of color, have been denied basic civil rights as a result of Supreme Court rulings that have not appropriately valued their needs and experiences. #SheWillRise
~ @SistaSCOTUS#SheWillRise campaign is aimed at raising awareness of the lack of Black women in the federal judiciary and ensuring the appointment of the first Black woman to the Supreme Court.

Black women lawyers are breaking down barriers & climbing the career ladder, but none have been able to break the marble ceiling & ascend to the highest court in the land.

That should end in 2021.

We need more Black women in the courtroom fighting for justice and fairness in our legal system.

When Black women show up and are able to bring our full selves to our work, our entire communities flourish.

Period.
