okay. Albus' neglect, abuse, and manipulations had been an ongoing debate in the Harry Potter fandom for years. Many argued that he's making hard choices for the greater good, while others think he simply failed at being an adult. (He's about 150 yo he's supposed to have WISDOM)
So i'm here to present to you why I think, that despite doing it for the greater good, he SHOULD'VE done better as a wise, 150 yo wizard who had been through similar fights against dark wizards in his life.
1. HE PLACED HARRY IN AN ABUSIVE HOME
After the attack to Godric's Hollow, Hagrid brought Harry to Privet Drive, where Albus and Minerva were waiting for him. Minerva warned Albus, "these are terrible people, we couldn't possibly leave him here" (or sth like that cant remember)

to which Albus replied that Harry needed the protection from Lily's love, which runs through Petunia.
Now, we know that Petunia and Vernon hated magic.
Did Albus know about this?
Yes. He did. And yet, he left Harry there with nothing but a note?!?!?!

Okay. Maybe you're asking now, how did he know?
Well, when Lily was admitted to Hogwarts, Petunia was jealous and wanted to go too. So she wrote to to Albus, who was the Headmaster, that she should be a witch too. Ofc she was declined bcs she's a muggle.

Now, that doesn't show that Albus knew Harry would be abused right? Okay i agree.
BUT, he could've came inside and asked them to take care of Harry instead of just leaving a note telling them to 'allow' Harry to grow up there and come 'home' each summer once he started school.
BUT, he could've came inside and asked them to take care of Harry instead of just leaving a note telling them to 'allow' Harry to grow up there and come 'home' each summer once he started school.
As he already knew from Minerva that they are 'terrible people', he could have TALKED to them and tell them how important it is to take care of him properly or they would face certain consequences. You know, scare them a bit so Harry wouldn't have to be starved, maybe???
Yet, he didn't do that. He left Harry in front if their doorstep with just a note, and told Arabella Figg who was a Squib and lived several houses down to watch over him.
Okay. Assuming we forget abt all those details above and that Albus didn't have time to take care of those details back then, y know, there were trials to go to, a school to manage, and all. Let's assume that.
Why the heck did he not check up on Harry even ONCE before Hogwarts?
Why the heck did he not check up on Harry even ONCE before Hogwarts?
There's literally ELEVEN FUCKING YEARS to check on Harry. At least once??? Or if he can't go there himself he could send Minerva? Or Hagrid? Or fuck anyone from the Order who's still alive?
The entire Wizarding World revered the Boy Who Lived, yet the Boy did not live well.

Okay im getting heated up ugh the audacity of this old man.
Harry had to endure neglect, abuse, and starvation, bcs he was part of a 'greater plan' in Albus' mind, in which Harry would defeat Voldy with the power of
L O V E
which he didn't get as a child, btw.

----a short intermezzo: pardon me if things get a bit repetitive or if im not coherently presenting my arguments bcs, as i said, im tired and sleepy but also in rage while writing this
now readers you might think:
Okay, user haechanisabub, Albus left Harry at an abusive home, we get it, but it obviously was important bcs Harry IS the Chosen One? And as u said before Harry HAD to defeat Vodly with love and he did? Right? So what's wrong?

Here is what's wrong:
Albus is a fucking old wizard with more than 150 years of experience. He knew better than anyone how easily hatred and darkness can fester in someone, esp if they had to endure ABUSE. it's a fucking miracle that Harry was kinda okay after all that.

Harry is literally the only living Potter, one of a noble house in wizarding world. Yet he lived under the stairs??? With a thin blanket??? And only had Dudley's old, tattered, baggy clothes? He couldn't eat unless he cooked for the whole family. Imagine it, A CHILD?!?!?
now u might say:
"OKAY, OKAY WE GET IT. HE WAS ABUSED. OKAY. that's sad. but, he needed the protection. there was nothing else Albus could do, right?"
THERES SO MANY THINGS HE COULDVE FUCKING DONE I ALREADY SAID SOME OF THEM ABOVE.

Albus could've checked on Harry. Make sure he was healthy, happy, if he couldn't be loved by his foster family, at least make sure they don't abuse him.
Also, Lily's protection is an interesting point to argue. Obv her blood runs in Harry, why does he need to live with Petunia?

Lily's protection didn't even work on Death Eaters. It only prevented Voldy from touching Harry. DE can simply kidnap and torture Harry if they wanted (WHICH ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN FOURTH BOOK YALL
).
So that reason isn't even solid 4 me. But, Albus is the wise one here, right?

So that reason isn't even solid 4 me. But, Albus is the wise one here, right?
Okay from here, we can see that:
-he's already planning years ahead by leaving Harry there so he could defeat Voldy with 'love',
and yet:
-he took the risk of sabotaging his own plan by leaving Harry live without love for 11 years
Stupid, right?
Thank God Harry is a miracle.

Some of you might think:
Soooo okay he made bad choices regarding Harry's living situation, buuuuut where's the manipulation? I think he's making honest mistakes? And not actually being manipulative?

Oh, dear, dear, dear. No. This is already the first step of manipulation.
imagine being Harry, being so, so, starved of love as he was, he would cling to the first form of affection he could find.

did u notice Harry always looking for a parental figure in the series?
in Hagrid, in Arthur, Sirius, and, of course, in our mega asshole supreme wizard Albus Dumbledore.
in Hagrid, in Arthur, Sirius, and, of course, in our mega asshole supreme wizard Albus Dumbledore.
It's really sad that Harry received more love from Rubeus and Arthur in his life, and yet, he kept looking up to Albus the most.
Why?
Bcs Albus always played a mentor figure for the whole "defeating Voldemort" arc.

Which brings us to the second point in Albus's faults, that I will continue tomorrow bcs i deserve sleep, seeya!
2. HIDING THE SORCERER'S STONE IN HOGWARTS and letting children deal with Voldemort
LIKE???? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ALBUS????
ARENT U AND ADULT?
look---- this decision is just the most stupid he had and i would dissect them below, okay. be patient with me here

as you guys remembered, in the first book and movie Hagrid retrieved the Sorcerer's Stone from Gringotts on Albus' orders.
Why?
There's only one reason:
Hogwarts is the SaFEsT place
((i dont think so, Albus))
Why?

((i dont think so, Albus))
So okay, apparently Hogwarts is super safe and Albus is planning to "guard" the sorcerer's stone in Hogwarts by setting up several traps and tricks etc that would "protect" this stone.
There are two questions we should ask here.
There are two questions we should ask here.

To answer the first question:
Albus had always known that Voldy didn't die. He knew that he will be back someday, and there had been sightings and rumors of a "dark being/presence" around Romania. There were reports of unicorn deaths all over Europe, even.
Albus had always known that Voldy didn't die. He knew that he will be back someday, and there had been sightings and rumors of a "dark being/presence" around Romania. There were reports of unicorn deaths all over Europe, even.
So, Albus was worried Voldy might come for the stone, to regain mortality and what not.
Now, we can keep it in our minds that Albus was fully aware that there's a chance Voldy would be coming for the stone. This is Voldy we're talking about, okay.
Now, we can keep it in our minds that Albus was fully aware that there's a chance Voldy would be coming for the stone. This is Voldy we're talking about, okay.
Now let's answer the second question. How did Albus plan to secure the stone?
Of course, tricks, and traps, and riddles.
As if this was some joke.
Of course, tricks, and traps, and riddles.
As if this was some joke.
He decided that the best way to guard this important stone that may or may not be the key to Voldy's return is by setting up traps and challenges and riddles that three first year students could easily solve.... WHERE'S THE LOGIC IN THAT????
i'll remind you guys that we haven't gotten to the manipulation bit for this second point. I'm still lamenting his faulty logic okay. I need to bcs this RAGE had been residing in my soul for too long.
Okay, let's take a few steps back.
I always had this question in my mind when i think about Quirrel:
How the heck, did, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, the Superior Wizard, did not notice
THAT QUIRREL HAD VOLDY ON THE BACK OF HIS HEAD?????
I always had this question in my mind when i think about Quirrel:
How the heck, did, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, the Superior Wizard, did not notice
THAT QUIRREL HAD VOLDY ON THE BACK OF HIS HEAD?????
That type of symbiotism would have required dark magic, and THAT type of dark magic would have TRACES. There would be lingering amount of Dark Magic around Quirrel, esp since Voldy can get in and out of him to hunt for unicorn blood in the Forbidden Forest.
So, HOW DID HE NOT NOTICE????
Okay, now we know three things:
¤ Albus knew Voldy is coming back
¤ Albus did a shitty job at ensuring the stone's safety
¤ Albus cannot possibly did not notice Voldy on the back of Quirrel's head
This led me to think: why the heck did he let this all happen?

This led me to think: why the heck did he let this all happen?
Well, i have a theory for that:
He was actually priming and preparing Harry as the "Chosen One".
*mic drop*
He was actually priming and preparing Harry as the "Chosen One".
*mic drop*
He needed to be sure that Harry can actually defeat Voldy in the end. So, he had to test his theory that Lily's love protected Harry and will work to kill Voldy.
What better way to do that except by making sure, that Harry got a chance to face Voldy in his first year?
What better way to do that except by making sure, that Harry got a chance to face Voldy in his first year?
Now, now, i know that you might think that i'm being overly suspicious and a bit reaching.
Well, this is just a theory. Of course maybe this all had to do with JKR only thinking up this much when she wrote the first book. But to me, as a reader, there's a lot to theorize.
Well, this is just a theory. Of course maybe this all had to do with JKR only thinking up this much when she wrote the first book. But to me, as a reader, there's a lot to theorize.
And ofc you may or may not agree with me, but this is what i think.
Why else would he, who most likely had known Voldy would attempt to come to Hogwarts right at the year Harry came in, set up such a perfect "trap" for a confrontation between Harry and Voldy?
Why else would he, who most likely had known Voldy would attempt to come to Hogwarts right at the year Harry came in, set up such a perfect "trap" for a confrontation between Harry and Voldy?
The 7 traps he set up with the Hogwarts professors can be solved by three eleven year olds, imagine how easy it would be for an adult wizard? Who would have so much more knowledge and experience? Esp. someone like Quirrel? Esp. If it was Voldy who we know is a genius?
Think of it like Albus is playing chess. He had already thought about at least 20 steps ahead.
But in doing so, he sacrificed CHILDREN.
But in doing so, he sacrificed CHILDREN.
it didn't make any sense for someone like Dumbledore to think that it would be easier for Voldy's shattered soul to break into Gringotts (which we know is super ultra fucking safe), than to break through traps and riddles and challenges in the third floor corridor in Hogwarts.
and as Sherlock always said: when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever is left, however improbable, is the truth.
(or something like that i dont actually remember)
(or something like that i dont actually remember)
The only thing that made sense for me, in the end, was that he really did try to prove his theory by letting Harry face Voldy. Why else would he put the Mirror of Erised as the last piece of protection?
Harry is the only one who could acquire the stone that way.
Who else would "want to find the stone but not to use it" but an eleven year old?
Who else would "want to find the stone but not to use it" but an eleven year old?
Also, he and Flamel decided to destroy the stone in the end, right?
Why the heck did they not just destroy the stone as soon as Albus was worried about Voldy? Flamel clearly had enough to last him the necessary time, right?
Why the heck did they not just destroy the stone as soon as Albus was worried about Voldy? Flamel clearly had enough to last him the necessary time, right?
There's only one answer:
ALBUS LITERALLY BAITED VOLDY TO HOGWARTS SO HE COULD CONFRONT HARRY.
Ugh fuck i just hate this so much.
ALBUS LITERALLY BAITED VOLDY TO HOGWARTS SO HE COULD CONFRONT HARRY.
Ugh fuck i just hate this so much.
Okay, so, now, Albus had proved that Harry can actually defeat Voldy. He literally can't touch him since Lily's love would burn him if he touched Harry, right? Now, that's one point in Albus' books against Voldy.
Do you know what broke my heart the most though?
The fact that Harry had to go back to the Dursleys.
MY SWEET SUMMER CHILD YOU DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER

The fact that Harry had to go back to the Dursleys.
MY SWEET SUMMER CHILD YOU DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER

Imagine that after everything he went through at Hogwarts, all the shit from Snape, bullying from Malfoy and his troupe, the SADNESS FROM THE MIRROR OF ERISED (god my heart broke everytime Harry went back down to see illusions of his parents), the horror from Voldy, all of that,
He had to go back to the hellhole in Little Whinging
And imagine that, as a child, you'd rather go back to a school where you went so much shit, because no matter how shitty, it's SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE SHITTY HOUSE YOU HAD TO LIVE IN

And imagine that, as a child, you'd rather go back to a school where you went so much shit, because no matter how shitty, it's SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE SHITTY HOUSE YOU HAD TO LIVE IN

Okay, i think i'm kinda done with that second point. If you guys had any question or would discuss any parts pls don't hesitate to leave a qrt or a reply okay?
I'm gonna continue with things that happened in second year tomorrow because we should sleep!
