We have been asking ourselves 'How do we advocate for the role of producer?', to do this we collected data from 137 producers about how we work now. The report is LIVE here: 1/9 http://freelancetaskforce.co.uk/producers-working-group
This is a plain facts report, purposefully made that way without reccs from us, as we believe the next steps should be co-created with other freelance producers. For now, we want this report to be a resource for producers and to dispel some of the myths of producing. Here are some of the highlights of the Data: 3/9
MONEY: Majority of respondents earned on average £0-5000 across 3 years (24.26%)
- 82.60% are earning on average less than the average UK Salary
- 73% need to subsidise producing work with other work or benefits

IMPACT:
Of the 137 respondents over the last 3 yrs
- 2180 projects were delivered
- 27,553 artists were supported
- 14,077 artists/creatives were employed
- 4.06 mill audiences reached cumulatively

BARRIERS
- 82% cited financial instability as the biggest career barrier followed by 71% citing free work/volunteer culture
- 49% felt there was a lack of career opportunities, and 47% felt there was a lack of training opps.

The highest priorities for development included;

- Most producers were part of informal networks such as the UK Theatre Producers FB group (103)
- 90.9% were not aware of a formal advocacy org for freelance producers
- 90.1% waned to be part of a formal advocacy network/org specifically for producers
