How to deal with anxiety as a Christian? Spiritual and practical steps (A thread)
Anxiety comes in all forms, from a feeling of nervousness to just a full blown panic attacks. The best place to start is where itâs coming from? Whatâs triggering it? Sometimes it can be minor things that remind you of major events and it spirals out of control.
Hereâs the thing, God knows. All of this is not new to God and thatâs something that I have accepted, letting God in. Please donât shut God out, He will never leave you even if you donât want Him to be.
If you feel anxious, go to a safe and quiet place. Your bedroom, the bathroom, a quiet place and breathe. Deep breaths helps oxygen go into your blood stream and communicates to your brain to be calm; in addition it releases endorphins to help you relax.
Talk to God: 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV) literally says "Cast all your ANXIETY on Him because He cares for you" The Bible tells us to "fear not" 365 times (once per day) God with all His power loves you so much that He reminds you 365 times. Eventhough we're not supposed to feel that way.
Declarations: "I do not have a Spirit of anxiety! You are with me always! I am worthy! I am gorgeous and beautiful inside and out, I will complete all the tasks I need to do!" Speak power, love and confidence over yourself! It helps, especially if you're looking in a mirror.
TALK TO SOMEONE FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Man, mental health really be making you feel like you have no one. But honestly, talk to someone a friend, you leader, a pastor, someone that and can listen. I have literally called my best friend mid-anixiety attack and he was just amazing...
he just listened, let me cry, and calmed me down. He spoke nothing but edifying words over me. I can't thank him enough! Read James 5:16.

Peel an easy peeler
I learnt about this not long ago when I felt so anxious at work and a colleague showed me this. Peeling an easy peeler and eating it is so calming. The sound as you peel the skin is soothing, and pulling the segments, can't explain it. Try it.

IT'S OKAY TO SAY NO! A lot of people especially Christians don't know how to say no. Things can be so demanding sometimes and the workload can be a lot, you do what you can and pray for more capacity, You're not the only one in the world and if God can rest, so can you.
OVERCOMING IT IN THE LONG RUN! CHEER UP BRETHREN...WORD WORKS!
It's not something that's going to happen overnight but you need to take that step to say "you know what, no more" it's not of God...

the devil can only try you if you allow him (1 Peter 5:8), fear is his number one weapon along with doubt. Don't let him make you feel anxious. Soak yourself in the word, God is with you living in you and through you. God cannot get anxious so why should you?
Scriptures and Passages:
Psalm 139
Psalm 23

Ephesians 6:11
Isaiah 41:10
Philippians 4:6
Just to name a few. Psalms is a great place to start. David, the might king David had moments of anxiety, depression, doubt and he always spoke to God.

Keep track of your process. Journaling/Diary Keeping/Voice Memos. Just record how you feel, you'll notice your dialogue will change. My response to situations has changed drastically and I highly recommend it.
Okay I'm going to end it here. Going back to my first point, find out what triggered it, it can be a situation, an event, a person and evaluate. Address it and walk yourselves through solutions. If it's maybe moving to a different job, planning your time...
Drop some commitments. Maybe massive gatherings aren't for you. I know we have massive ministry programmes and it can be really overwhelming, join a department to keep your mind engaged or have a friend(s) so it doesn't feel like there are a 40739 people in the arena. lol.
