I said I wasn't going to discuss politics as elections are gone. Will say this to the PNP - you're targeting the wrong ppl. The JLP did a few things right & if they cont. to get these things right they'll have more than 18 1/2yrs of unbroken service. These are some of the things:
JLP communicated with the public. Many Jamaicans didn't need any party affiliation to reach their representatives or the PM. My SM of choice is Twitter & I was able to reach out to many MPs & Gov't Ministers. They engage the ppl of this country!
They had several meetings around the country too. Party supporters were not mobilized. The average man could walk off the street & ask questions of the MPs & Gov't Ministers. One dubbed HOPE, I attended & asked questions of the PM directly.
The JLP constantly spoke with the public & had the Press Conferences being carried live so ppl didn't rely on the particular newspaper's or news station's slant. We got the message at the same time. In fact, many times the headlines came, we collectively said, 'that wasn't said!'
The JLP led gov't ensured a number of agencies wramped up their social media presence & notices about outages were reported. NWA did more blast messages and was the least interactive (pls fix this). For the 1st time, I knew when there was planned NWC maintenance in my area.
The JLP led Gov't delivered on the $1.5M tax break & the country didn't go to hell head way as was predicted by the PNP. Juxtapose this to the PNP's promise re reducing GCT on electricity bills. They increased. Ppl remember.
The JLP's implementation of the various social intervention packages that they announced e.g. CARE was good. Anyone that fit the criteria can apply. U didn't need to go to the MP's office, lose your dignity to bow & scrape to be added to a list to get this benefit. This is MAJOR!
There are some ppl that the PNP had at the front of their campaign that were very polarizing. They spewed a lot of untruths/half-truths that were an immediate turn off. You actually wanted to vote against these ppl. They tried to convince you the very thing you know to be false😑
The PNP was seen as a party that opposed for opposing sake. Even if it was good for Jamaica they opposed. Some of their suporters were turned off. Their stance at the beginning of covid was an immediate turn off for many. Their targeting of the MOHW Min. was also a big turn off
There are many things I could highlight but I will say this to the PNP, take some time to reflect & renew yourself. Find your purpose i.e. if you weren't opposing the JLP what are you about? Then come back to the Jamaican ppl. Until then take care🙋
