You've seen some of the articles about @ScholarStrike, but let me say a few things that are important about today and tomorrow.. It's not just about a two day strike.. Its about putting a focus on the racism in policing, our nation, and what we can do to educate people
Radicalized violence is on the rise. There is lots of talk about Law and Order, but what about when the law is disordered, and disproportionately targeting African Americans? #ScholarStrike
Despite the Pandemic, we are contending with a pandemic of violent policing, that does not stop EVEN WHEN POLICE ARE ARRESTED FOR MURDER. Take George Floyd's murder for instance. #ScholarStrike
Look at what happened in Kenosha Wi. and the Jacob Blake shooting. VIOLENCE BEGETS VIOLENCE #ScholarStrike
We have to come to grips with the fact that the system of policing in this country is part of the cycle of violence. I tire of hearing white people say "well, if they just didn't resist". Tell that to Breonna Taylor who was ASLEEP IN HER BED. SHOT and KILLED #ScholarStrike
I'm doing @ScholarStrike for the same reason every Black person who is in the street, protesting is. I'm tired of police shooting us. I am tired of white people spitting on us and telling us to go back to Africa. My ancestors built this country, and were raped and beaten.
I'm tired of the ignorance about slavery in America It wasn't some nice plantation scene with southern belles and GWTW BS. It was evil. It was beatings. It was the breakup of families. Why do you think people come so hard against the #1619 project? It destroys America's myth.
#ScholarStrike is about teaching about race, racism, police brutality and the injustices BIPOC experience in America. It is also about teaching what we should be doing, and best practices. It's about KNOWLEDGE. Our nation is becoming dumber by the second. #ScholarStrike
So today and tomorrow are about standing in solidarity with all the mothers, fathers, families that have lost loved ones to racialized violence in America, past and present. We stand at a precipice. What can we do and teach to raise awareness of how dire our situation is?
That's what this strike is about. Many of us love being in the classroom, but we can't because of the mishandling of the Virus. We could be doing this together, live on our campuses, but because of greed and ignorance in the current administration, we are online #ScholarStrike
So when some disgruntled parent or troll gets in your time line, let them know why you are on #ScholarStrike If we didn't have police doing target practice on black people at home, in their cars, in the middle of the street, etc, we could do our jobs!!! #ScholarStrike
