A thread on one of the most important decisions @PresJGZuma made when he took over from former President Thabo Mbeki in 2009 to support Class Case Apartheid Reparations which former President Mbeki & former Justice Minister Penuell Maduna had refused to support.
In 2009 upon resuming office, Jacob Zuma, rejected & overturned a decision by his predecessor Thabo Mbeki, who had approached the American court to dismiss the class action case that had been brought forth by an NGO called Khulumani Support Group
In 2002, Khulumani Support Group had approached the American courts “for relief & reparations against large multi-national corporations for aiding and abetting the Apartheid government.
According to the NGO, the investments in South Africa by Multinationals had allowed the Apartheid government to commit gross human rights violations against the South African people”. ( http://www.saha.org.za/news/2009/December/united_states_supports_khulumani_in_reparations_case.htm)
On the 21st of March 2003, a year after Khulumani Support Group class case action, the TRC whose mandate was to investigate crimes and acts of abuse during apartheid, handed over two of seven volumes of work done by the commission to former President Thabo Mbeki.
Some of the recommendations by the TRC was a wealth tax levy on SAfrican business & sanctions on FW who was found to have lied & thus “an accessory to gross human rights violations & creating a culture of impunity within which gross human rights violations were committed."
Barely a few months after the report by the TRC, Penuell Maduna who was then Minister of Justice, wrote a letter to American Justice John E Sprizzo who was presiding over the class case, arguing that such a case would "discourage much-needed foreign investment.
The letter further stated that the “1993 constitution & the Promotions of National Unity & Reconciliation Act, 1995, which established the TRC, was based on a conscious agreement by all political parties in SA to avoid Nuremberg-Style apartheid trials and ensuing litigations”.
The position by Mbeki's gov was in contrast to the TRC report which had even lambasted  Whites, Corporate South Africa and International capital for their refusal to acknowledge their role during apartheid
and it was precisely out of this dissatisfaction of the outcomes of TRC that some of the victims of apartheid had turned for relief and reparations to the American courts which enjoy universal jurisdiction over certain violations of international law.
The deliberate decisions to exonerate & pacify apartheid was also affirmed in 2005 through an Act of Parliament under Mbeki which amended NPA Prosecution Policy which effectively granted the likes of FW & many perpetrators who had not even appeared before the TRC, amnesty.
In conclusion our attitude & confusion as the black majority who are yet to recieve restorative justice cannot be viewed in isolation from the manner in which some of the leaders of the ANC dealt with the genocide and holocaust meted out against Africans.
It is therefore not a coincidence why Jacob Zuma is hated by the White establishment & Mbeki is a saint to the extend that they rewarded Mbeki's wife & his cronies with shares at FNB, Anglo American, Woolworths etc. We continue to be betrayed for 30 pennies
