The politics that made Jessica Krug possible, beyond her foray into minstrelsy:

1. Academies that turn blackness into a commodity, allowing them to profit from ‘doing’ diversity and inclusion whilst still benefitting from fundamentally racist institutions within education.
2. Commodified and boundaried notions of race and culture that border identity within recognisable and often racist stereotypes. They become, either, profitable products (The Obamas) or the essentialised property of gated racial communities.
3. A neo-nationalist politics that privileges authenticity of identity above all else and is willing to mobilise the strategies, politics and sciences of white supremacy to police the boundaries of said authenticity.
4. Success of liberalisms in anti-racist discourse where competition within racist structures for limited resources is the loci of struggle. This competition is not just compatible with, but reproduces, racist systems and functions to preclude coalitionism & abolitionism.
5. Collapse of comradeship into allyship, which instructs white people to dance around like headless mules in an endless, self-flagellating performance of ablution. Intended to provide feel-good-feels to all involved but largely provides no ‘way out’ of the system.
