While we wait for the videos, we'll tell you a little bit about the @StobsCamp...
The Camp is located approx. 4 miles south of Hawick in the Scottish Borders, and due to its extraordinary level of preservation Stobs Camp is an internationally important WWI site.
It was an arena for Scotland’s preparation for war and the subsequent handling of WWI prisoners, both civilian and military. Although the camp’s military connections continued up until the early 1960s the focus of the Stobs Camp Project is the period prior to, and during, WWI.
The project's aims are to better understand the camp and the role it played in the war, to value, share and commemorate Stobs and the people connected to it and to protect it for future generations.
The project has been busy recording the physical remains for the local and national record and exploring the human stories of soldiers who trained at Stobs, the civilian internees and the prisoners of war.
Equally important are the tales and memories of local people whose ancestors worked at or were connected to the camp. Oral reminiscence and genealogical research play a vital role in preserving its social history.
Volunteers from all across the Scottish Borders, the UK and Europe are helping to build up a picture of what life was like at the camp by researching the archives, newspapers, regimental records and family histories.
To date, the project has run workshops and training sessions and has shared its findings through the Stobs Camp website, events, performances, exhibitions and conferences.
