It is actually enraging to see @theSNP & @ScottishLabour politicians lining up to praise this BP/ @AberdeenCC partnership.

Let’s look at BP’s record shall we?

1. 2005. BP’s Texas City, Tex., refinery blew up, killing 15 workers

1/10
2. 2006. A badly maintained BP oil pipeline ruptured and spilled 200,000 gallons of crude oil over Alaska’s North Slope.

3. 2007, when Tony Hayward took over as chief executive, BP settled a series of criminal charges. Agreed to pay $370 million in fines.

2/10
4. 2010. Deepwater Horizon explosion killed 11 people & caused an environmental disaster. BP & Transocean were involved.

5. 2010. Yulia Reuter, head of the energy research team at RiskMetrics rated it one of the worst companies on health, environment & safety grounds.

3/10
8. 2019. In the same Forbes report BP (and others) had the following reported tactics:

“The most common tactics employed are drawing attention to low carbon, positioning the company as a climate expert and acknowledging climate concern while ignoring solutions.”

6/10
9. 2020. BP fined just £7000 for spilling 95 tonnes of crude oil into the sea in 2016 from BP’s Clair platform, around 75 miles off the west coast of Shetland.

7/10
In conclusion; BP makes money from pumping as much fossil fuels as it can, has a disgraceful safety record that has killed it’s employees and has an appalling environmental track record.

Why would anyone want a partnership with this company?

All of this information is available with a simple Google search.

Politicians either can’t be bothered to do due diligence, are wilfully ignoring the facts OR are completely hoodwinked by BP’s massive lobbying efforts.

I am especially disappointed to see @StephenFlynnSNP endorse this ‘partnership’ with BP.

The entire thread above should give pause for thought. If journalists have read this thread then I’m happy to be contacted. Let’s get the facts out there!

BP are terrible.
