Well, with most individuals thinking Physiotherapy is *just* massage.. Today on #WorldPhysiotherapyDay I'd like to share a little more information with you all.
Remember there is no medicine to improve balance, coordination, strength, range of motion and wellness.
Physiotherapy Rehabilitation has specialties like- Musculoskeletal/Orthopedic PT, Neurological PT, Community PT- Women's Health & Geriatrics, Pediatric PT, Oncology PT, Sports PT and Cardiovascular-Pulmonary PT (Chest PT & Lung Rehab being most effective for #COVID19 Patients).
There are various evidence-based benefits of #Physiotherapy: Helps reduce Pain/Swelling, Improves Balance-Coordination, Promotes Wound Healing, Improves Breathing and Heart-Lung functions, Restores Normal Movements & Strength and provides alternative to surgery/drugs.
Our course is of 4 years & 6 months. Anatomy, Physiology
, Bio-mechanics, Behavioral Sciences, Kinesiology & Therapy, Pharmacology, Neurosciences, Clinical Pathology, Ethics, Research- these are a few subjects I've mentioned which are similar to the other #Health Allied Courses.
Yes, we study the same subjects as #MBBS students. Personally, I don't mind not-being called a #Doctor but I do mind the fact that people don't know the importance of PT or the fact that we don't get enough respect in our society and even among other Doctors.
Medications/Pills are the most important during this #Pandemic, but imagine a world with Paralytic patients- hoping to get back on their feet soon.
Well, try drinking a glass of water/writing without using your thumb or without your grip being strong enough to hold it.
Hoping after you read this, you understand our stream & our work. Hoping the current students taking #NEET would be encouraged to take PT as their career happily!
Happy World Physiotherapy Day to my colleagues & all the PTs out there!
