Am I missing something with the Steve Hitchen stuff? Said he hates the nature of the January transfer window because it's about panic buying, not planning and clubs are a nightmare to deal with because of consequences of selling. That's a sentiment shared by most clubs. (cont'd)
Even big spenders like Chelsea failed to sign the striker they wanted last January and had to hold tight until the summer. Manchester United had to wait until the final hours in January and after missing out on other targets decided to bring Ighalo back from China. (cont'd)
Anyone who watched the last series of All or Nothing would have seen even Manchester City give up on pursuing Virgil Van Dijk because the January price was just too much. Everything is inflated because of the consequences for teams in the second half of the season. (cont'd)
Again, I might be missing something and I completely understand that people have legitimate frustrations with the club and how it can operate but not sure this throwaway line fits that. He doesn't hate his job, he's saying it's a crap window to do proper business in. (cont'd)
Yet despite that he still managed to secure Steven Bergwijn, one of his long-term targets in the window, a player wanted by other clubs and one of the top young prospects in Europe. That's the other side to the January window, seeking sudden opportunities that arise. (cont'd)
He's being blamed by some for signing players like Njie and Nkoudou who arrived long before he returned to the club. We also know Spurs and how they work financially. Must make the job all the more difficult in working within parameters. Again though I might be missing something.
