I've worked blue collar jobs for most of my adult life and underestimating the influence of right wing propaganda of those who arent actively political to outright dismiss if not actively hate those who question the status quo cannot be ignored.
The silent "majority" isn't a myth. It's just not a political tool in the normal sense. There is a a disturbing number of people who are ready and willing to accept a fascist regime so long as their enemies fit within their worldview.
LGBTQ, socialists, anarchists, and even democrats. These labels have been used to demonize and dehumanize people for years. The seeds that grow into active persecution of those who are viewed as enemies. The normalization of hating your fellow countryman is endemic.
It's only with a figurehead like Trump that these undercurrents have come to a head, and with the possibility of trump losing the election expect these groups to be fed exactly what they need to radicalize their beliefs. "Protecting the nation" will the the rally call.
The NRA spent years preparing these groups to violently revolt. The imminent threat has always been a narrative, and trump and the GOP are itching to give them a reason to mobilize. The proud boys, 3%ers, and Patriot Prayer are just the test case.
This powderkeg is primed and ready. If you think you're not at risk I cannot stress enough these people are your neighbors. Having a sign in your window is enough to set some of them off. What do you think will happen when the president tells them you're the enemy?
Trump isn't trying to convince voters, he wants soldiers and he's getting them. There has always been a portion of the population armed and ready to revolt. His whole campaign is to prep the rest of america to accept them as righteous patriots and not terrorists.
