each of the songs from melodrama by lorde as moments from a house party, a thread:
*parts of this are nsfw so if ur not okay with that keep scrolling :) also alcohol bc its a party*
Green Light - you and your friends are on the way to a house party and pregaming in the back of a car. music is blasting and you are excited and ecstatic. the vibes are immaculate, and you are buzzed
Sober - you arrive at the party and see an ex/past flame that treated you badly(cheated?) but u never got over them. you drink to avoid your feelings, and while drunk start dancing with them, even tho ur brain is telling you not to, u refuse to listen and drink more to shut it up
Homemade Dynamite - you continue to dance with your ex, all thoughts of future regret are gone. you start to hook up with them, this is the moment of euphoria you get as their lips press into yours like you remembered, they lead you into the bedroom and...
The Louvre - while you fuck, you remember how in love you both were and how well you fit together. you can barely hear the music from the party but still feel the bass. u think that if you got back together it'd be a love for the ages and you tell them so, curled up against them.
Liability - they react badly to you telling them you still love them and leave the room. you get dressed and go to tell them you're sorry for being too forward when you see them hooking up with someone else. you go to the bathroom and cry in the mirror.
Hard Feelings/Loveless - you've never been one for letting people see that they've hurt you, so you fix your makeup and leave the bathroom. you go hook up with one of their best friends, and make sure they're watching, making sure to show them that you didn't mean what you said.
Sober II (Melodrama) - you stay back to help clean up, and you begin to think about how juvenile and petty your actions were, and about social drama. you find it ridiculous and beneath you, and yet you can't stop yourself from participating in it. you become contemplative.
Writer in the Dark - you really start to think about how you interact with other people, and understand both your faults and your virtues. you understand the depth of your love and attachment to others, but realize that you must love yourself first. you let them go.
Supercut - You allow yourself to remember the good parts of the relationship, and let yourself feel happy. however, you acknowledge that this is only the good moments, and that the relationship was actually toxic, but the good moments can still bring you joy.

Liability (Reprise) - you also reflect on the bad parts of the relationship. you see yourself as the good guy from your perspective, but as you look at your ex's, you see how some of your actions were problematic, making you a liability to the relationship.
Perfect Places - ur friends find u, and u leave the house. u walk home laughing and talking, the sun is starting to rise and you're barefoot, carrying your shoes. you realize no relationship is ever perfect, but you should have fun and enjoy them while you're young. you're happy.
end of thread. <3 hope u enjoyed. this is j a narrative I made up, but I got the idea from ella saying that melodrama was about a house party :)
