Questions I have as a Black person trying to exist: A THREAD. (w/ my fav memes)
Soooo one of my questions is: how can we reconcile certain discourse with healing from trauma as Black folx? Are they one and the same? Cause like after the discourse is done you still gotta sit within your own skin & examine your personal life/emotions.
Follow up question: sooo what do we actually gain by participating in discourse? and by gain, I guess what I really mean is what is the practical aim (if one) of discourse(s) especially when it comes to viewing the black experience through a pessimistic and/or posthumanist lens?
Where does spirituality fit into our discourse/the future for Black folx? How can we still participate in and understand spirituality without perpetuating the harm that institutional religion often does?
How are we gonna reconcile the reality that black folx, black men in particular were/are denied their humanity while also acknowledging the harm, violence, abuse, and gaslighting that comes from them (when they seem to be chasing the patriarchal pipe dream presented to them?)
So what do we “do” while we await the inevitable collapse of capitalism and hopefully America? What is “activism” and is it something we need to be actively engaging in? Or should we just like rest it out?
When we do eventually abolish police/institutions in general, what will societal accountability look like? (Personally I think we think we need police, jail, etc. because we don’t believe in the ability of people to self govern— which ties back into our humanity & healing maybe)
What does it mean to have dreams anymore? I am a creative person, I love fashion, arts, music, etc. but these spaces are so steeped in exploitation and capitalism I’m not sure I could participate in that “world”. But also like I have to exist and live...
How do I reconcile my desire to pursue my passions with the reality that I would also like to live on a farm and literally just live a life of rest & taking care of my space (like an oasis place)? Can they be reconciled or should I pick one?
Feel free to share people/books/videos/etc. that would help add to this thread. Also these are written from my lens as a Black woman, you can add your questions from your lens too. This is supposed to be a safe space so if you act goofy you’ll be blocked 🦋✨
