let’s talk about ableism/insulting language. at this point, we’re all aware that mental illnesses as descriptors is bad. we’re also all aware that the r-slur is just that: a slur. but as we continue to unlearn ableist + offensive language, we need to take a closer look
everyday examples that i find myself desperately needing to continue to unlearn is the use of “psycho/psychotic” or “maniac” and taking a closer look at the context of words like “crazy” or “insane”. and you’re probably thinking how could this be ableist/insulting?
there are 2 issues(?) worth pointing out about this type of language. 1. the obvious degrading nature towards disabled people 2. the decrease in effective conversation

so basically what i’m trying to say is check yourself and your language (and your languages context!!!). every person with a disability is going to have different preferences or thoughts about this, so this thread is main just a check in for self-reflection + some resources!!
