god can I just say how I LOVE the writing in tales games

like there’s so many high fantasy stories where characters behave in fairly perfect ways and there’s clear delineations between good and evil but tales always makes a big deal out of deconstructing that

there’s subplots about stuff like “should you forgive your abuser” and “is it ok to admire people who did great things but also terrible things” and “there are consequences for both following and breaking unjust laws”

Like vesperia has very strong overtones of “you’re responsible for the outcomes of systems you support, but also, it is not enough to dismantle those systems without rebuilding something in their place”

like not that many JRPG’s have your protagonist’s well-intentioned actions lead to destruction and death for innocent people and they have to like. Deal with that and take responsibility for it and accept that some people won’t ever forgive them. It’s VERY GOOD
